The commercial marine and offshore industry is regulated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), specifically under the annexes of MARPOL for the prevention of pollution by their ships and rigs.  All vessels generate waste from crew living and vessel operations.  The origin of the waste generation determines which Annex of MARPOL applies.

Waste management on ships and sea platforms remains a serious operational challenge characterized by excessive costs and potential health and environmental risks. It is complex, inefficient, labour-intensive and the overall waste management approach has been shaped by the evolution of international regulations aimed at protecting the environment. Accordingly each waste stream uses different equipment. This results in multiple systems that are difficult to operate and maintain.

Terragon offers innovative and easy to implement solutions for ships and sea platforms for solid waste, sludges and oily bilgewater:

MAGSTM is the best solution for MARPOL Annex V regulations.  Our patented technology will reduce the waste volume by over 95%, but more interestingly, it will convert this waste into useful energy that can be integrated back into the vessel.  MAGS is an effective appliance for the conversion of waste to energy onboard, while reducing costs and removing the complicated logistics & negative environmental effects related to landing waste ashore.  MAGS also is a much more environmentally sensible approach compared to current thermal destruction devices used onboard as the system is self-fueling, and has an included quenching and scrubbing process on the exhaust gas line before its final release to the atmosphere.

WETTTM-O is a patent-pending technology for oily bilgewater treatment. It is fully-automated with on/off capability and rapid start-up, and does not use filters, adsorption media, membranes, chemicals or biological treatment. WETT-O is based on a marinized advanced electrocoagulation approach and has been demonstrated on commercial and government ships. In 2016, certified WETT-O commercial prototypes became available for selected commercial shipboard demonstrations.
